Edudzi Tameklo Raises Alarm Over Renaming of Ameri Power Plant as Kumasi 1

Report by Joycelyn Adoma Arthur- 14/04/2024

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, the Director of Legal Directorate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns about the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration’s decision to rename the Ameri Power Plant as Kumasi 1 Power Plant.

Tameklo believes that this renaming is an attempt to mislead the people of the Ashanti Region.

The Ameri Power Plant was originally procured by former President John Dramani Mahama to address the country’s power challenges by generating 25 megawatts of electricity.

Tameklo sees the renaming of the plant as a deliberate effort to deceive Ghanaians, especially those in the Ashanti Region where the plant is located.

He highlighted Mahama’s role in acquiring the plant as part of efforts to tackle the power crisis during his tenure.

Taking to Facebook, Tameklo urged Ghanaians to be vigilant and not fall for what he described as a misleading tactic by the current administration.

He criticized the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government for their decision to rename and repackage the Ameri Power Plant as Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant, labeling them as corrupt, incompetent, and wasteful. Tameklo accused the government of failing to make any meaningful progress in power generation.
