In the wake of the untimely passing of the late Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, John Kumah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for a pivotal parliamentary primary on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The primary, aimed at selecting a suitable candidate to fill the void left by Kumah’s demise, follows his death on March 7, 2024, after a brief illness.

Nine eager aspirants, comprising five men and four women, have thrown their hats into the ring for the opportunity to represent the NPP in the upcoming by-election slated for April 30, 2024. These candidates, all vetted and cleared by the party’s committee on April 6, signify a diverse pool of talent and ambition within the constituency.

The journey towards this crucial primary began on April 2, 2024, when nominations were officially opened by the NPP. In a display of enthusiasm and determination, all nine contenders swiftly picked up nomination forms on Thursday, April 4, signaling their readiness to vie for the esteemed position.

Among the candidates vying for the parliamentary candidacy are familiar faces such as Kwabena Boateng, Dr. Evans Duah, and Klinsman Karikari Mensah, alongside notable newcomers like Helena Mensah, Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey, Portia Baffoe Abronye, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Aaron Prince Duah, and Yaa Akyawmaa Aboagye.

The by-election in Ejisu Constituency, prompted by the passing of the esteemed Deputy Finance Minister and MP, John Kumah, has drawn significant attention from both within and beyond party lines. Despite the absence of interest from other political parties thus far, the NPP remains poised for a spirited internal contest as they navigate this critical juncture in the constituency’s political landscape.

As Ejisu braces for a new era of representation, all eyes are on the outcome of today’s parliamentary primary, as the NPP takes decisive steps towards filling the void left by the late John Kumah and shaping the future of governance in the constituency.
